About us

The Challenge

The cross-border areas of Greece and Cyprus are increasingly facing natural disasters linked to climate change, primarily forest fires, prolonged droughts, and extreme weather phenomena.

The impacts are multifaceted: environmental, social, and economic. The loss of forest areas, the destruction of ecosystems, and the threats to human lives make the need for prevention and coordinated action imperative.

At the same time, local authorities and civil protection teams often lack modern tools, expertise, and timely information that would enable them to react effectively before a crisis evolves into a disaster.

The challenge, therefore, is to transition from managing the consequences to preventing the risks, through cooperation, innovation, and digital empowerment.

Expected Results

The Prevent-DisCC project aims to have a substantial footprint in the cross-border cooperation between Greece and Cyprus and in environmental protection; offering practical, measurable, and sustainable results:

Development of an integrated risk forecasting system (for fires, drought) based on satellite data, FWI indices, and Artificial Intelligence tools.

5

Digital early warning platform, accessible to local authorities and civil protection teams.

5

Mapping of hazardous areas through drones, robotic, and remote sensing applications.

Social & Educational Benefits

5

Education and training of local government executives, volunteers, and civil protection professionals.

5

Information and awareness-raising of citizens regarding risks and prevention measures.
